Table Talk: RESILIENCE
Rosa is a devoted mother of six children, ages 4 to 15, who works tirelessly to provide for her family. Despite significant challenges, she remains committed to creating a stable and nurturing environment for her children.
Life was difficult for Rosa and her family. With no reliable transportation, limited English skills, and a husband whose work keeps him away from home for most of the year, Rosa carried the responsibility of caring for six children largely on her own. During the summer months, her children had few opportunities to access educational resources, activities, and community support, leaving the family feeling isolated and stretched even thinner.
Through The Corner Table's Lunch and Learn program, Rosa and her children found a welcoming place to connect, learn, and receive support throughout the summer. The program provided regular access to the library, educational activities, nutritious meals, and opportunities to engage with others in the community. For Rosa, it became a dependable resource that helped bridge gaps created by transportation and financial challenges while giving her children meaningful experiences during their summer break.
Today, Rosa's family has greater access to learning opportunities, social connections, and community resources that were previously out of reach. Her children are able to stay engaged throughout the summer, and Rosa knows they have a safe and supportive place where they can continue learning and growing. The program has provided more than meals and activities; it has offered hope, connection, and a sense of belonging for a family working hard to overcome difficult circumstances.
