Volunteer Spotlight: Sam & Jenny Suttle
When Sam and Jenny Suttle moved to Newton from Savannah, Georgia, they wanted to find a way to become involved in their new community and meet other Newtonians. As they cruised through town one day, they spotted The Corner Table. A quick visit to our website led Jenny to make a phone call, and that phone call turned into years of volunteering and a special place in the Corner Table family.
Today, Tuesdays look a little different for Sam and Jenny, but both spend their mornings serving others. Jenny is a dedicated member of our Tuesday cook team, arriving early to help prepare meals and staying through cleanup, and sometimes even longer to make frozen meals. Sam delivers meals to Strong Life every Tuesday and occasionally fills in with our cook team or helps in the dining room.
When asked what keeps them coming back, their answer says so much about what makes volunteering at The Corner Table special:
“We love the energy and the other folks who help keep things running. Everyone seems to really love what they do, and that just makes you feel good!”
Jenny gets to see firsthand the guests who come through our doors seeking nourishment, connection, or both. Sam says one of his favorite parts of delivering meals to Strong Life is the genuine appreciation he receives when he arrives. Together, they’ve also witnessed something especially meaningful, the way care and support can help someone get back on their feet, and how some of those same people later return as volunteers themselves.
For Sam and Jenny, volunteering is about fulfillment, connection, and gratitude. They love the fast paced energy of a busy Tuesday and the many relationships they’ve built with employees, volunteers, and community members along the way.
After 40 years of marriage, six states, 12 moves, three grown children, three grandchildren, and soon to be four, Sam and Jenny have made Newton their home, and we’re so grateful they chose to make The Corner Table part of that home.
Their advice to anyone thinking about volunteering?
“You won’t regret being involved with this organization! There are so many different ways to help. It takes many hands to do the work of The Corner Table, and there’s something for everyone!”
Sam and Jenny, thank you for being two of those many hands. We are so grateful for the time, energy, kindness, and joy you bring to The Corner Table each Tuesday. We truly love having you as part of our family! 🧡
